Monitoring

The Fraunhofer WKI is a recognized testing, monitoring and certification body for national and international quality associations, authorities and organizations and performs monitoring for various certification procedures in the wood and wood-based materials sector. In addition, we support companies with regard to UKCA labeling for construction products and offer private-law third party monitoring for optaining quality and eco labels.

In the monitoring center, a competent team of auditors ensures proficient monitoring activities. Regular internal and external training courses together with the participation in specialist events and knowledge-sharing ensure that the auditors are always up-to-date with the latest developments. In addition to mandatory random sampling in dependence on the certification procedure, the auditors also take samples of the materials in order to determine flammability properties, PCP/lindane and the constituents of waste wood.

Monitoring for construction products in accordance with the Lower Saxony Building Code (NBauO) can be executed on the basis of “allgemeinen bauaufsichtlichen Zulassungen” (general building authority approvals, abZ) or “allgemeinen bauaufsichtlichen Prüfzeugnissen” (general building authority test certificates, abP). We are able to offer these forms of monitoring for the following building products:

• Adhesives for load-bearing timber components
• External thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS)

• Load-bearing structures made of glued laminated timber (glulam), glued solid timber or laminated veneer lumber (LVL) of softwood with nail plate connections
• Bonded composite components made of glued laminated timber (glulam), unless covered by DIN EN 14080, and cross-laminated timber (CLT)
• Non-glued wall, ceiling and roof elements clad or planked on both sides, e.g. panel elements for timber houses in timber panel construction
• Glued wall, ceiling and roof elements clad or planked on both sides, e.g. panel elements for wooden houses in wooden panel construction
• Phenoplasts and aminoplasts of adhesive type I for bonded load-bearing joints in and of wood components

The Fraunhofer WKI is notified by IKEA for the monitoring of its in-house factory production controls in accordance with the IKEA specification “IOSMAT0003”. Furthermore, the Fraunhofer WKI also offers monitoring of the weight values of industrial wood in compliance with the cooperation agreement “Forst-Platte-Papier” in Austria.

The Fraunhofer WKI collaborates with external, contractually-bound auditors in European and non-European countries. Monitoring is offered in the following regions:
