Material recycling of WPC
Principally, WPC are marketed as recyclable products because, due to the utilized thermoplastic polymers, they can be materially recycled, i.e. ground, melted and re-extruded.
A number of German WPC manufacturers offer free take-back of their own products. Most manufacturers recommend the disposal of small quantities of WPC via the house waste system and for larger quantities either their disposal as materially-recyclable waste wood or their thermal usage (energetic recycling). A defined classification of WPC under the waste legislation has not existed until now. It can be expected that used WPC sections can be utilized in order to produce new products.
In a project supported by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft industrieller Forschungsvereinigungen e.V. (Federation of Industrial Research Associations, AiF), the question will be addressed as to whether a renewed material usage (“End-of-life recycling”) of WPC is technically implementable and how this can be achieved.
Current project results will be presented during this Webinar.
