Factory production control: New approaches for the determination of formaldehyde in non-coated wood-based materials

In accordance with the varying regulations in Europe and, in particular, the applicable requirements in Germany for the monitoring of wood-based materials, in-house laboratory documentation of the factory production control system is required. One of the performance characteristics which must be tested is the formaldehyde emission/content of the certified products.

The factory production control (FPC) with respect to formaldehyde is carried out in Europe based on the type of wood-based material being monitored. In the guidelines, the determination of the formaldehyde content is provided for through two methods: for non-coated particle and fiber board and OSB, the perforator method in accordance with DIN EN 120 applies; for coated wood-based materials and non-coated plywood, the gas analysis method DIN EN 717-2 applies.

The extent to which testing procedures other than the officially-designated test methods can be applied in FPC is clarified by taking into account the varying requirements of the certification types, in particular for reduced-emission materials.

The Webinar is aimed at accredited testing, monitoring and certification bodies and representatives of the wood-based materials industry.
