Itaconic acid – a sustainable alternative to acrylates?

Polyester acrylates are used as the main components in UV-curable coatings and inks. In the 33rd Fraunhofer WKI Webinar, an acrylate-free alternative on the basis of renewable raw resources will be presented.

The importance of renewable raw materials as a source of chemical building blocks is growing. Reasons for this include, in addition to a reduction in the dependence on fossil fuel imports, the increasing demand for sustainable products. In this regard, itaconic acid has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. It is available on an industrial scale through a biotechnological process using by-products of sugar production.

During the course of the Webinar, research work in the field of UV-curable polymer resins on the basis of itaconic acid will be presented. The Webinar is thereby aimed at all those who are involved in the research and development of radiation-curing polymer resins.
